Narampady Parsih History
Narampady Church, dedicated to St. John De Brito, is situated on the Badiadka – Mulleria route, approximately 10 km from Badiadka, which is 6 km east of Kasargod. This Roman Catholic Church belongs to the Mangalore Diocese, established in 1942.
82 years ago, people used to go to Bela Church, 12 km away, for their spiritual needs. The then Parish Priest of Bela, Rev. Fr. Frank Paris, built a chapel at Narampady, with the land provided freely by Mr. Thyanganna Rai. All the faithful of Narampady are thankful to Thyanganna Rai.
The chapel built by Rev. Fr. Frank Paris was inaugurated on June 15, 1942. Rev. Fr. Piad Pinto took over as the first Parish Priest of Narampady. At that time, the church had only 106 families and 527 members, but he had great zeal for the church.
Rev. Fr. Michael Noronha succeeded as the second Parish Priest, showing keen interest in the spiritual needs of the people. He brought St. John De Britto’s relic and statue from Thiruchanapalli, installing them in Narampady. Various devotions, including Novenas, were initiated. In 1953, he started a school named Fatima School.
Rev. Fr. Fredrick P. S. Monis, known as the 'Shilpi' of the parish, made significant changes, beautifying the church, parish house, and establishing St. Avila Convent for spiritual and educational purposes.
Rev. Fr. Anthon D’Souza served the parish for five years, helping people live a holy life. Rev. Fr. Charles Charles Moras emphasized the importance of agriculture, bringing youth and the parish community together through cultural events.
Rev. Fr. Gilbert Pinto served for only nine months but made remarkable contributions with his energetic work. Fr. Aurthur Pereira brought about changes in spiritual, cultural, and economic development.
Rev. Fr. Vincent Victor Menezes worked hard, developing agriculture and technical classes for the youth, and establishing self-help groups. On June 3, 1983, he built a chapel in Bovikana.
Rev. Fr. Gregory Pereira was known for his work in agriculture, developing both the church and agricultural land. Rev. Fr. Ronald Cutinho showed keen interest in celebrating the golden jubilee and started Youth group meetings.
Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa was well known for his singing, providing support to previous priests, facilitating water supply for agriculture, and improving the singing quality of the choir.
Rev. Fr. Dolphy Monterio was known for his simplicity and humbleness, emphasizing the spiritual needs of families through regular visits.
Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash Dsouza made remarkable developments in Bovikana Chapel. In 2004, Rev. Fr. Jayaprakash Dsouza took over the parish, known for his simplicity and humility.
Rev. Fr. George Dsouza served as a parish in charge for six months. In 2006, Rev. Fr. Sunil Dsilva arrived, serving the parish for six years, building rapport with the people, and initiating various development works.
Rev. Fr. Antony Lasrado served for one year as the Paris priest of Narampady. In 2013, Rev. Fr. Santosh Menezes took over the responsibility of parish priest, initiating Adoration on Fridays and serving the parish for four years.
Rev. Fr. John Baptist Moras arrived as the 19th Parish priest in 2017, celebrating the 75th year of the parish. He implemented significant changes, building a parish house, beautifying the cemetery, and undertaking other developments.
Rev. Fr. Anil Francis Pinto took charge as the 20th Parish Priest in 2023. We are inaugurating a newly designed Parish website, aligning with the current Parish Priest's interest in building relationships between our parish and other communities.
